로고로 말하는 기념일 : Google Doodle Innovation

Google 홈페이지에서 Google 로고를 응용하여 디자인된 Google 기념일 로고는 두들(Doodle)이라는 명칭으로 불리워지고 있는데, '낙서'의 의미가 있는 원래의 의미가 구글(Google)의 사명과 어감이 유사해서 하나의 고유명사처럼 생각하는 사람이 많다.

더우기 최초로 구글의 기념일 로고를 만든 사람이 Google 웹마스터로 유명한 데니스 황(한국명: 황정목)으로 알려져있어서 한국사람들에게는 조금 더 의미있고 친근하게 다가온다.  실제 데니스황의 경우 최초로 기념일로고를 만들었던 2000년 당시 인턴사원이었는데 이 일을 계기로 구글의 웹마스터로 성장하게 되었다.



지금까지 구글이 만든 기념일 로고는 약 1,000개가 넘는 다고 하는데, 개인적으로 압권은 2011년 4월 16일 찰리채플린 탄생 122주년을 기념하여 전세계에 공통적으로 오픈한 두들이다. 기존의 기념일로고가 gif 형태로 만들어졌는데, 찰리채플린 기념로고는 무성영화가 가져다는 느낌을 그대로 응용하여 Google과 찰리채플린의 만남을 패러디하여 소개해주고 있다.



이전까지만 해도 회사의 얼굴이라고 할 수 있는 로고를 가지고 새로운 디자인을 한다는 발상이 쉽지 않았지만 구글의 기념일로고에 대한 사용자들의 반응이 좋았기에 최근에 포탈, 쇼핑몰 등 다양한 사이트에서 특별한 날을 기념하여 아이디어가 번뜩이는 로고를 선보이고 있다.
